SPIRITS IN THE SKY B-2 Stealth Bombers can do it all—unseen! • The B-2 Spirit, commonly known as the “Stealth Bomber,” has now been flying for over 32 years, having first flown on July 17, 1989. The maiden Spirit voyage, serial number 82-1066, departed from Palmdale, California at 0638 and landed approximately two hours later at Edwards AFB, California. Both Edwards AFB and Whiteman AFB, Missouri have the unique distinction of being the only bases in the world hosting permanently based Spirits. Whiteman AFB received its first B-2, 88-0329, on December 17, 1993, and was officially named the “Spirit of Missouri.”
