The Horn Book
March 1, 2015
The Timeshapers and their allies must find a way to save the planet Garden from certain destruction by going back in time and space to prevent the attack (by Visitors from Earth). Rigg, Umbo, and Param remain on Garden, refining not just their abilities but also their knowledge of what causes the people of Earth to decide to destroy them, while Noxon (Rigg's duplicate) and Ram return to Earth in a preemptive strike. Their collective efforts will determine the fate of the human race on both worlds. Card follows a large cast of characters in numerous settings. Various digressions into ethical, metaphysical, and sociopolitical issues invite readers to think deeply about human problems. This is heady, mind-blowing stuff, and few authors have the ability to pull it off. With this concluding volume of the Pathfinder trilogy (Pathfinder, rev. 1/11; Ruins, rev. 11/12), Card has quietly written some of the most outstanding science fiction for young adults in recent years. jonathan hunt(Copyright 2015 by The Horn Book, Incorporated, Boston.
