Magnolia Post: Time Well Spent

Fresh Perspective • A FEW QUICK YET INTENTIONAL REFRESHES CAN MAKE OUR SPACES FEEL BRAND-NEW.

Jo’s Spring Things • for time well spent

Chip’s Spring Things • for time well spent

Our Greatest Asset • Time is a constant presence in our lives. It offers us a sense of order, clueing us in on where we are in the day. It can also guide our actions, shape our choices, and offer direction for where we place our attention.

Soup’s Still On

Brad Montague • Acclaimed illustrator Brad Montague reflects on his lifelong pursuit to inspire empathy and imagination in kids … and former kids.

It’s About Thyme • The return of perennials brings comfort. Even if the winter was long, watching what was dormant reclaim its vibrancy calls to us all.

Soak in the Renewal • A soothing bath offers a gentle invitation to slow down and care for ourselves—to take refuge from the push and pull of the day. With tired limbs and minds, we climb in and allow the warm water to surround and uplift us. Our daily efforts pause. Our worries fade. We are renewed. As the daylight lengthens, perhaps calling us to more activity, making the space to soak can nurture us all the more. Here, we share ideas to reclaim the rejuvenation of bathtime.

Better With Time • Over time, patina can appear as a green, a brown, or a gloss on the surface of an object. But it does much more than simply reveal age. Patina shows us the story of a life.

A Gardener’s Guide to Planters • Thoughtful container planting can add life and design to the patio, porch, or any other perch.

Chasing the Light • PULL BACK THE CURTAINS. LEAN IN CLOSE TO THE WINDOW. FIND YOUR SPOT IN THE SUN. AS SPRING ARRIVES TO WARM THE EARTH, WE CAN FIND WARMTH OF OUR OWN WHEN WE LET ALL THAT GOOD LIGHT IN.

A Note From Jo: a New View of Time

Travel by Train

High Time for Tea • Savor conversation and connection over afternoon tea.

What if Time Is on My Side • CONSIDER HOW YOUR DAYS MIGHT CHANGE IF YOU VIEWED TIME AS A GIFT.

A Storied Space • A Massachusetts home from the 1800s keeps hold of its history while making room for a young and growing family.

Time Well Lived • The temptation is always there—to measure our lives by achievements that can be seen and recognized by others. But time well spent is not so easily marked. Often it’s known only by the slow but steady “yes” we feel inside. Or the deep-seated certainty that tells us our feet and hearts are headed the right way—even if it’s not the way the world might have us go. Only looking back can we see how these moments were turning points in who we were becoming. And then aren’t we grateful we didn’t let them slip away.

Spring in Bloom • When tulips bloom, spring opens up in breathtaking richness. Bright, joyful flowers on tall stems delight. A gift well worth the wait.

Say Hello to Spring With Avocados & Apricots • A season of beginnings calls for a fresh look at familiar ingredients. Set a bright tone with playful recipes that put this unexpected pair—sometimes alone, other times together—in a brand-new light.

Graduate Hotels: Telling a City’s Story Through Design • Bringing together multigenerational voices, a boutique hotel collection creates and celebrates a sense of place.
