She wakes to find a dead man—but has no memory of what happened. In frozen Fairbanks, Alaska, everyone thinks she's guilty—except the FBI negotiator who once broke her heart.
Volcanologist Darby O'Roarke survived a brutal abduction in Indonesia and rebuilt her life. Now she's the prime suspect in a fellow student's murder, and the only person she can turn to is FBI Supervisory Special Agent Eban Winters—the man she fell for, and who turned her away, last summer.
A negotiator has no business getting involved with a former kidnap victim, and Eban has spent months resisting everything Darby makes him feel. One frantic phone call sends him racing north—into a hostile police department and a growing media frenzy.
Then another woman is murdered, and the evidence points to someone trying to frame Darby. Far worse, a serial killer who has eluded the FBI for a decade appears to be obsessed with her. As a blizzard shuts down the town, Eban must find a predator hiding in plain sight—and finally face the feelings he can't outrun.
A killer as cold as ice. A second chance worth fighting for.
